U.S.S. Red Cloud
Here's a little sketch I did of the U.S.S. Red Cloud, a Vanguard class Federation starship. It's obviously inspired by the Defiant, and shares many features with its smaller cousin. Like the Defiant, the Vanguard class was commissioned with the sole purpose of defending the Federation from the Borg.

After Wolf 359, it was apparent the Federation needed a dedicated military vessel to provide defense against the Borg. This led to the commissioning of the Defiant class. Following upon the successes of that design, the slightly larger Vanguard class was commissioned in 2382.
The prototype U.S.S Vanguard (NX-74300) was initially assigned defensive patrol duties within 20 light years of Earth. As the class has expanded in numbers, its primary patrol perimeter has expanded to include the core Federation worlds within 50 – 60 light years of Earth (Alpha Centauri, Tellar, Andoria, Vulcan). Several ships of the class have also been placed on station to supplement the defense of the outer Federation (Trill, Betazed, Risa, etc.) As the class expands even further, plans are to create a task force of Vanguard class ship to be stationed permanently near the Bajoran wormhole.
Like the Definat class of starships, the Vanguard class is equipped with cloaking technology, but under the provisions of the Treaty of Algeron, Federation vessels are banned from using their cloaks anywhere except in the Gamma Quadrant. Whether this policy remains in place given the destruction of Romulus in 2387, remains to be seen.
