Are there any other Chicago area Star Trek fans who where supposed to go the the William Shatner meet and greet Expo at the Portage Theater on Sept 4th 2009?? ( www.startrekchicago.com/ ) This event was canceled last minute and refund were supposed to go out. I have been in contact with some member of "Prestige" who set up the event and it looks like us fans may never get our refunds. Is there anyone else out there who was robbed by these people or anyone who can help out???
Here is an email i Received from Prestige below:
Kevin,
Although we are incorporated that doesn't mean we are rich. We took a $6000.00 loss on the entire event. We still owe alot of people including yourself. It is our intention to pay each person off one by one as we can afford to. The Shatner people come first, ahead of all the publications we owe for advertising.
We owe approximately $3800.00 in Shatner refunds.
The form you signed clearly stated 90 days, and the letter accompanying that form stated the refund processing would not begin until after the Sept 4 and 5 2009 event.
In all honesty unless something changes for the corporation we will have to file bankruptcy, in which case you will probably never see a refund. I can guarantee if anyone attempts to file suit against us, Shatner people or other companies we owe money to, we will file for bankruptcy.
On a good note, there is a website that clearly slandered us. We believe that website contributed to the failure of the event, and the low ticket sales for William Shatner. This caused us a loss, and a loss for yourself. We are in the process of filing a lawsuit against that website. Any settlement from that suit would be applied to the people that are owed refunds. Of course court actions can take years.
It is our intention to pay every Shatner holder back for their purchase, however, I cannot place a timeline on it. It is our hope to pay everyone back by the end of this year. However, it might be longer than that. If anyone tries to sue us, we will claim bankruptcy for legal protection. Kevin, at this point our company has $5.00 in its bank account, that's it. The shareholders are struggling to keep it alive. People owe us money also, and we have to go after them. It's just the way it is
